Governmental Immunity

Typically, public employees are immune from civil lawsuits resulting from acts performed in their official capacities. However, no official is immune from actions arising from constitutional violations. Additionally, the Federal Torts Claim Act (FTCA) allows suits against the government by private citizens where a public employee causes an injury. More information can be found on the U.S. Department of Labor Web site at www.dol.gov.
