Sexual Orientation
The Civil Rights Act does not prohibit sexual orientation discrimination. Protected classes, for the purposes of civil rights, do not include homosexuals. In other words, the fact that an individual is gay does not give him or her more protection than the nongay individual under federal law. Many state laws and municipal ordinances do offer protections for sexual orientation through their antidiscrimination laws.
